British-born David W. Jones' African connections are via his mother, who was born and brought up in Zimbabwe. It was visits to Africa, plus a prolonged spell in South Africa which fanned David's passion for the bush and its wildlife.
In the late 1990s, David's life changed, leaving little time for painting. However, on holidays, many abroad, David has found time to pursue his passion for painting.
Traditionally a watercolourist, David has experimented with oils and achieved an astonishing degree of success with his subjects of African landscapes, animals and people.
Today, he continues his undefined, ethereal style, first established in watercolour, whilst his adventure into oils adds a murky richness.
As always, it is suggestion rather than reality which magically provides his powerful and evocative images.
In his new series of watercolour paintings – World Impressions – painted in situ, David tries to capture an evocative aspect of the foreign country. Besides in Africa, David has painted in France, Italy, Greece, Australia, Thailand, Cuba, and now, Russia.
As well as showing over many years with Art of Africa, Buckinghamshire, David has exhibited in London at Osborne Studio Gallery, Bartley Drey Gallery, the Gagliardi Gallery, and Kingsbridge Art, and exhibited in Beaconsfield at the Warwick Gallery.
David has also been accepted by the Chelsea Arts Society, Christie's Wildlife Auction, the United Artists Society, Westminster, London, and the Wild Arts Society, Kent.
In 1993, David won the Kensington and Chelsea Arts Council award.
